big news, people!

on march 29th, i will be leaving for a mission trip in guatemala.

the young adult group i attend has teamed up with potter's house association, a non-profit christian organization that is based in one of the most impoverished parts of guatemala city. potter's house provides service to families that live in shanties around the city garbage dump. these families (including children) spend 14 hours a day digging through the dump, looking for anything of value that they can sell for income. some families even find their food in the dump. potter's house provides these families with services such as personal development, health care, education, etc. in order to better their lives and hopefully, get them out of the dump.

while in guatemala city, we will be building two houses and distributing food to local families.

to say that i'm excited for this trip is an under-statement. i'm so excited to serve, to experience another culture and to grow closer to the others that will be serving with me.

to say that i'm nervous for this trip is also an under-statement. i know that this is going to be emotionally very difficult for me. i know that i'm going to be upset by the things i see, smell and hear. i know that it's going to be very difficult for me to see other humans, especially children, living in such extreme poverty. but i also know that God is good, and He will give me the strength i need while i'm there.

i feel so blessed and thankful to be able to have this opportunity. sacrificing a week of vacation time seems like nothing compared to the ways that we will hopefully impact the lives of these families. this is going to be a life-changing experience for everyone involved and i can not wait.

prayers for a safe trip and prayers for strength are much appreciated!!

That's great! My in-laws are doing the same thing. In fact they may be in Guatemala at the same time as you. Not sure. Have fun and good luck!

I'm so proud of you! I'll wave when you fly over Texas as you fly south. What a special lifetime memory for you.

That is awesome - that will be such an amazing experience. I can't wait to hear all about your trip. You'll have to keep an old fashioned journal & then fill us in on all the details when you get back!
